CSI BASEBALL BLITZES BY KINGS POINT, 15-3

The College of Staten Island men's baseball squad got back in the win column on Wednesday, blowing by the United States Merchant Marine Academy by a 15-3 count in non-conference action played in Kings Point, New York. The win lifted the Dolphins to a 15-6 overall mark, while the Mariners dipped to 5-13.

CSI had its foot on the gas pedal from the first inning and never looked back, scoring four runs in the first frame before USMMA could take their first cuts. Four straight singles led off the inning, with CSI's Pat Gale and Tom DiPietro's counting for RBI's. Following an error, Joe Cassano stroked a two-RBI single to conclude the big inning.

In the second frame Steve Hession and Devon DiCasoli led off with singles and were later plated via a pair of sac flies from Henry Roman and Gale. 

USMMA scored a pair of runs off of CSI reliever Jeff Pontebbi in the third inning to bring USMMA to within 6-2, but then CSI ripped off another nine runs in the next two innings. RBI-doubles by Gale and Cory Sullivan highlighted the fourth inning damage, while RBI singles by Gale and Cassano and a two-RBI double by DiPietro did the damage in the fifth.

CSI squandered a run in the ninth, but by the then the visitors took a 15-3 win back home to Staten Island, making the Dolphins winners of 9 of their last 10 games. Richard Anderson garnered the win, throwing a single relief inning, while USMMA was plagued by errors, committed eight on the afternoon.

Joe Cassano enjoyed a monster outing, going 4-for-6 with 4 RBI and a run scored. Roman, Gale, and Hession each had three hits for the Dolphins, who had 19 overall.

CSI will be back to conference action this weekend, playing two of a three-game set with John Jay College on Saturday at 12 Noon at the CSI Baseball Complex.
